Hey everyone! The hobby bench is alive with the sound of miniiiiiis! It’s been a minute since I last helmed the hobby blog, and boy, has a lot changed! Projects have come and gone, but in particular, the following:

The wee one arrived at the beginning of the month, and it’s been an adjustment to the hobbying schedule for sure. But in the short month’s time I’ve had with my son, a secret has been revealed to me. The secret to getting faster at painting your miniatures is to set yourself achievable goals. For example:

How many base colours can I apply before he wakes up and starts to fuss?

The answer is not as many as you’d think. BUT, working against the clock in a very real sense allowed me to see a project through in only a handful of painting sessions—with great success to boot!

Here’s another little chestnut of wisdom I’ve recently discovered:

A wash layer takes about as long to dry as it takes to pick up a crying infant, change him, and prep a bottle.
In a way, he’s helping me by timing it like that! A watched pot never boils after all!

In all seriousness, finishing up that mini bust has really motivated me to finally prep and prime my Privateer Press Borka Kegslayer bust. I’m probably going to do a zenithal layer of white before getting down to business, but as luck would have it, I was also finally able to acquire another batch of P3 paints, including Trollblood Base, a wonderful warm turquoise colour I’d been pining over for this very project.

Speaking of Privateer Press projects, I also ordered a bottle of Menoth White Highlight and can finally get back to making progress on that army too. I felt so motivated in fact, that I started assembling my Guardian/Indictor kit.

So long as things keep falling into place, I’ll be able to make some serious gains on all of my current projects. Even with smaller projects like this one that I took on for my FLGS:

The store is going to be running a D&D campaign that puts the adventurers in a sort of twisted circus that they have to escape—needless to say I’m super excited to get down to painting some bright colours but then fading them and giving them a grimy, lived-in look. I’m especially keen to start painting the clown, but as they say, it ain’t over until the fat lady gets painted! The best part of this project is that it’s got a rather quick deadline, but that just means that I can really buckle down this week and get them cranked out ASAP!

So despite the chaos of the new year and everything that that entailed, 2019 is shaping up to be a good year so far! Lots of projects, but also a renewed sense of purpose to painting, which hopefully means being another step closer to achieving the dream—to paint all the minis!
